How a chart answers a job question
Think of a railway timetable. The houses are the stations: they show where a job lives in your chart. The dasha is the train that is running right now. The transits are the signals along the track. You can hold a perfect ticket and still stand on the platform if your train is not due yet.
That is why two people with equally strong 10th houses land their initial jobs at completely different ages. The houses describe potential. The dasha and the transits decide the date. Parashari astrologers and KP astrologers read the same set of houses for employment, and both lean on those two timing layers. So does this calculator.
The four houses behind every job question
Vedic astrologers do not read one house for a job. They read four, because a job is work, status, pay and fulfilment at the same time.
| House | What it carries | Why it matters for a job |
|---|---|---|
| 2nd house | Earned money, your salary | A job that does not pay is a hobby, so the 2nd house has to be active for employment to feel real. |
| 6th house | Daily work, service, competition | The house of having an employer. It is the one most people underweight while they stare at the 10th. |
| 10th house | Career, status, what the work is | Describes the kind of role and how it looks from outside. |
| 11th house | Gains, fulfilment of effort | Where an offer turns into income and results. A strong 10th with a dead 11th often gives interviews but not appointments. |
Each house has a lord, the planet that rules its sign. Your ascendant decides which planets those are. A Taurus ascendant has Saturn as 10th lord, Venus as 6th lord, Mercury as 2nd lord and Jupiter as 11th lord. A Scorpio ascendant gets a completely different set. This is why sun sign advice fails for jobs: the same transit that opens a door for one ascendant does nothing for another.
Two more planets add colour to the picture. Your Amatyakaraka, the planet with the second highest degree in your chart in the Jaimini system, describes the professional side of your nature, and you can find yours with our Amatyakaraka calculator. Your Atmakaraka, the planet with the highest degree, points to the kind of work that feels like a calling, and our Atmakaraka calculator shows it.
Dasha: the period that opens the door
Vimshottari dasha divides a life into chapters ruled by nine planets in a fixed order: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. The chapters last 7, 20, 6, 10, 7, 18, 16, 19 and 17 years, 120 in total. Where you begin in that sequence depends on the nakshatra your Moon occupied at birth. You can check your own sequence with our dasha calculator.
Each major period, called a Mahadasha, is divided into nine sub-periods called antardashas, in the same order and starting with the Mahadasha lord itself. An antardasha lasts from a few months to about three years. That is the scale a job search lives on.
The rule is simple. Work tends to move when the antardasha lord or the Mahadasha lord is one of your four career lords, or sits in one of those four houses. The 10th and 6th lords weigh the most. The 2nd and 11th lords support them. A sub-period that touches none of those houses can feel stuck for a year or more, even when applications go out every week.
The planet running the period also colours the kind of work that opens up.
| Dasha planet | Natural job flavour |
|---|---|
| Sun | Authority, government, administration |
| Moon | Public-facing work, care, hospitality |
| Mars | Engineering, defence, police, technical work |
| Mercury | Analysis, communication, accounts, trade |
| Jupiter | Teaching, advisory, finance, law |
| Venus | Creative work, design, service industries |
| Saturn | Structure, long service, large institutions |
| Rahu | Technology, foreign links, unconventional fields |
| Ketu | Research, specialist and behind-the-scenes work |
These are natural tendencies, not promises. What a period actually delivers depends on the houses that planet rules in your chart.
Jupiter: the transit that carries the offer
Jupiter spends roughly a year in each sign, between 12 and 13 months. When it passes through one of your career houses, or looks at one, the doors your dasha opened tend to swing. Jupiter looks at the 5th, 7th and 9th houses counted from where it stands, so a single transit can touch two or three of your career houses at once.
The strongest Jupiter signals are Jupiter over your 10th house, over your 6th, over your 2nd or 11th, or over the sign of your 10th lord. Jupiter aspecting any of those is weaker but still useful.
Retrograde motion matters too. When Jupiter backs into a sign it already visited, you get a second pass at the same window. The calculator lists that return as its own dated block instead of hiding it inside one long range.
Saturn on your 10th house is weight, not lift
Saturn is the most misread transit in career astrology. It does not close doors. It slows them down, tests them, and then pays. While Saturn crosses your 10th house you usually carry more responsibility, the role you land is one you grow into rather than glide into, and recognition tends to arrive as Saturn moves on.
The calculator marks Saturn’s passage through your 10th house as its own heavy season. That way a strong Jupiter window that felt like hard work makes sense in hindsight. If you are also in the Moon-centred seven and a half year cycle, see our Sade Sati calculator.
A worked example
Imagine a Taurus ascendant. Its career lords are Saturn for the 10th house, Venus for the 6th, Mercury for the 2nd and Jupiter for the 11th. Say this person is in the Mercury Mahadasha and the Venus antardasha begins. Mercury is the 2nd lord, so the big chapter belongs to income. Venus is the 6th lord, so the sub-period belongs to employment. That is a strong dasha case for work moving.
Now add Jupiter. When Jupiter enters Aquarius, the 10th house for Taurus, it sits on career and looks at the 2nd, 4th and 6th houses, two of which are career houses. Dasha and transit now point at the same houses, so the calculator would mark that stretch as a top window and print its start and end dates.
If Saturn is crossing the 10th house at the same time, the window is flagged as favourable but heavy: the offer is real and the workload comes with it. Six months earlier, in a Moon antardasha with Jupiter in a neutral house, the same person would see no window at all, and the calculator would say so plainly. This is an illustrative chart, not a real person.
Job or business? How the calculator decides
The calculator counts indicators instead of inventing a score. Leaning towards employment: the 10th lord connected with the 6th house or the 6th lord, Saturn, Mercury or the Sun tied to the 10th house, and a well placed 6th lord. Leaning towards business: the 7th and 10th houses linked, as when the 7th lord sits in the 10th or the 10th lord sits in the 7th, and Mercury or Rahu tied to the 7th or 11th house.
It then reports one of three results: leans towards employment, leans towards business, or mixed. A mixed result is telling you something true. Many people do both, starting with a job and moving into business later, and the windows still apply to either path.
Government job: what the chart has to show
The Sun is the planet of the state and of authority. Saturn is the planet of rules, cadres and seniority lists. A chart leans towards government service when the Sun or Saturn is tied to the 10th house or its lord and the 11th house is also active, because the 11th is where an appointment turns into a result. The 6th house adds competition, which is why it also governs entrance exams.
The calculator lists which of these indicators your chart has and which are missing. A chart with strong indicators and no exam attempted gives no appointment, and a chart with weak indicators does not forbid a sarkari naukri. It simply tells you where the effort will meet more resistance.
How this calculator works, and what it cannot do
- Planet positions use the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the sidereal standard used in India.
- Dasha uses the Vimshottari system, started from the nakshatra of your Moon at birth.
- Houses are counted sign by sign from your ascendant.
- Your birth time matters. The ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours, and a different ascendant means a different 10th lord and different windows. If your time is uncertain, run the calculator twice with the earliest and latest possible times and rely strictly on the windows that appear in both.
- Astrology is a traditional system, not a scientifically validated way to predict employment. It cannot see the job market, your skills or your interview. Use the windows to decide when to push harder, not as a promise.
How to use your windows
In a favourable window, spend the energy: update your resume, ask for referrals, apply in bursts and book the interviews you have been postponing. In a heavy Saturn season, deliver where you are, build the skill your next role will ask for, and keep applications steady rather than frantic. In a gap with no window, treat the time as preparation. The chart does not apply for you in any of them.

Frequently asked questions
When will I get a job according to my date of birth?
Your date of birth alone cannot answer it. You need the time and place too, because they fix your ascendant and the lords of your career houses. With those, the answer is the next period when a career-house dasha or antardasha overlaps a Jupiter transit through, or aspect on, those houses. This calculator lists those dated windows.
Can astrology predict the exact month I will get a job?
Not honestly. Dasha and transit give seasons of weeks to a few months, not a calendar day. A calculator that promises an exact date is guessing. Treat a window as the period when your chart supports the effort, and remember the effort still has to happen.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes, for a reliable result. The ascendant changes roughly every two hours, and a different ascendant means a different 10th lord and a different set of windows. If you know your time within an approximate hour window, run the calculator at the earliest and latest possible time and rely strictly on the windows that appear in both.
Which dasha is best for getting a job?
The dasha or antardasha of your 10th lord or 6th lord, ideally supported by your 2nd or 11th lord. There is no universally best planet. Saturn’s period suits steady, long service and the Sun’s suits government and authority roles, specifically when those planets are tied to your career houses.
Does Saturn in the 10th house stop a job?
No. Saturn in the 10th house, by transit or by birth, adds weight and responsibility. The role you land tends to be one you grow into, and the payoff often arrives as Saturn leaves. The calculator flags this as a heavy season, not a closed door.
Which planet gives a government job?
The Sun is the main significator of government and authority, with Saturn for rule-bound, long-tenure service. A chart leans towards government work when the Sun or Saturn is tied to the 10th house or its lord and the 11th house is also active. It is a lean, never a guarantee.
Naukri kab milegi?
Naukri kab milegi ka jawab aapki kundli ke 10th, 6th, 2nd aur 11th bhav ke swami ki dasha aur Jupiter ke gochar se milta hai. Apni janm tithi, samay aur sthan upar daalein, calculator tareekh ke saath sambhavit samay dikhayega.
Is this calculator free?
Yes. The dated windows, the job vs business reading and the government job indicators are free. The Career and Wealth Report is an optional paid PDF that goes deeper into profession fit and remedies.
Will I get a private sector job or a government job?
Your chart shows a lean, not a verdict. The calculator lists government job indicators separately from the job vs business reading. If the government indicators are few but the employment indicators are strong, private-sector work is usually the smoother path for you.
Will I get a job this month?
Check whether today falls inside one of your dated windows. If a favourable window is running, the chart supports action this month. In a heavy Saturn season or between windows the chart is not closed, but results usually need more effort and more time. No calculator can promise an offer in a given month.
How do I know when I will get a job astrologically?
Find your 10th, 6th, 2nd and 11th lords from your ascendant, then check which dasha or antardasha is running and whether Jupiter is crossing or aspecting those houses. When all three agree, the odds are best. The calculator does this for you and prints the dates.
